REVIEW Remember again why – Acts 25: :32 The initial leg 27:1-13 1st order of business…Paul delivered to a centurion 2nd order of business…find a vessel headed in the right general direction (one headed for W coast of Asia) One of Paul’s companions was Aristarchus Acts 19:29 Initial route taken was between Cyprus & regions of Cilicia, Pamphylia, and Lycia They eventually reached the SW point of Asia Minor The 1st leg ended at Crete, at Fair Havens Not suitable for wintering, the plan was to get to Phoenix…Paul advised against it

REVIEW Difficult sailing & eventual shipwreck 27:14-44 The ship ran into a “northeaster” They were forced to abandon sailing tactics and simply “gave way to it, being driven along” They ran under the shelter of Clauda, barely able to control the ship They undergirded the ship with cables and jettisoned cargo to withstand the violent storm The sun & moon were not visible for many days…all hope was abandoned After a long time without food, Paul admonished them they should have listened to him in Crete…however, he urged them to keep their courage vv

REVIEW Difficult sailing & eventual shipwreck 27:14-44 On the 14th night, the sailors took soundings…they were approaching land!! Paul thwarted sailors who were attempting to escape Around dawn, Paul encourages all (276) to take food for strength They resolved to drive the ship’s bow into the harbor beach Striking a reef, the ship began to break apart The soldiers intended to kill all the prisoners…Paul’s centurion kept them from this plan All had to either swim or drift to shore on whatever object they could from the ship

Stay 3 months. 28:1-10 Natives showed kindness Paul survives snake bite Publius’ father healed Many islanders healed Journey Continues 28:11-16 Boards a ship to Syracuse. 3 days. Passes through Rhegium Puteoli. Brethren take them in for 7 days Arrives in Rome. Allowed his own quarters with a single guard

Proclaims his innocence Jews forced me to appeal to Caesar Jews response Received no word about you Want to hear Paul’s views regarding the sect that is being spoken against Paul testifies to them trying to convince them about Jesus from the law and prophets Disagreement.

“Go to this people, and say, You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.” Therefore, this salvation has been sent to the Gentiles. They will listen. Stayed two years in custody in Rome proclaiming kingdom of God and teaching Jesus Christ.
