LESSONS LEARNED FROM THIS HADITH

Once, a man began to abuse Hadhrat Abu Bakr whilst Rasulullah was also there. Hadhrat Abu Bakr remained silent. The man continued to abuse him but Abu Bakr continued to remain silent. After some time, Hadhrat Abu Bakr said something to him. When he did this, Rasulullah got up and began to walk away. Hadhrat Abu Bakr immediately got up and went after Rasulullah He asked Rasulullah the reason for going away. Rasulullah replied, "As long as you remained silent, Allah sent an angel to abuse him on your behalf. When you said something in revenge, the angel went away and shaytaan came. I, therefore, went away."

Activity: STICKS AND STONES... Provide each child with a small paper cutout in the shape of a human-- or have students cut out their own paper figures. Ask each student to write his or her name on the cutout. Have students form a circle; have them pass the cutouts to the person on their right. As the cutouts are passed around the circle, have each person make a small crumple or tear in the cutout and add a pencil mark. When the cutouts have made their way around the entire circle, have students try to repair their own cutouts by flattening, erasing, and taping. After cutouts are repaired, discuss the activity. Talk about the effects of unkind words and hurt feelings.
