Expectations! We expect all children to follow the school rules and respect each other and each other’s property. We expect all children to put in 100% effort at all times and do the best that they can. It is expected that all homework will be completed. Incomplete homework will be done during playtime. Any issues concerning homework please speak to me immediately.

Ways to support learning at home You can help your child at home by getting involved with their homework. There will be two pieces of homework per week – one maths (handed out on Friday), one English (handed out on Wednesday). These should be should be returned on a Monday. Incomplete homework will be done during playtime. It is expected that your children will also practise reading at home. – reading books are to be brought in daily.

Attendance The best way to support your child in their learning is by ensuring they attend school as much as possible. Danger Zone: As few as 19 missed days over the school year (90%) reduces their chances of success. It can result in their dropping a full grade at GCSE. Weekly class attendance awards are awarded with the class having the most being rewarded with a treat at the end of the academic year. Each week 100% attendance is put into a draw with the chance of receiving a small treat and at the end of a term a £5 gift voucher could be won. Lateness: 5 minutes per day is 3 whole days lost over the year. Reading and spelling lessons begin at 9.00.

Assessing progress All teachers at Toner Avenue School keep accurate recordings of the progress the children make This is informed through marking, observation, written units and testing. This information enables us to make the right choices for the next steps in learning for each child

Educational visits and visitors Trips to learning centres, museums and places in the community are a fantastic way to enrich the curriculum and bring it to life. Having visitors into school related to the curriculum can enrich it also.

Rewards There are many ways your children can earn house points in class; a good piece of work, being kind to others, showing initiative etc.. They also work towards receiving a star of the week or handwriting certificate. Golden Time – following the class and school rules – every Friday the children have the opportunity to end the week (2.50-3.20) doing activities of their choice.

Days to remember P.E days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has their full P.E kit. You child will change their reading book once a week. Your child will tell you their book changing day.

Question time!
