Parts of a Guppy Differences in Male and Female Guppies Anal fin shape in males is rod shaped, in females it is fan shaped. Females has smaller dorsal fins. Females have a gravid spot that holds eggs. Caudal fin or tail is smaller and less fancy in females than in males. Males have a larger dorsal fin than females. They are tropical fish that love warm water. They can be orange, black, yellow, white, red, brown, or a combination of those colors. The Life Cycle Of A Guppy A female guppy holds the fertilized eggs in her gravid spot. Once the eggs are mature, the guppy gives birth to live fish. A small fish is called a fry.
