Presentation transcript:

Ecosystems

Biotic factors Biotic factors these are things that are living

Abiotic factors Abiotic factors these are things that are non-living

Organism population community ecosystem

Relationships in ecosystems Symbiosis-any close relationship between two species Mutualism-both species benefit from the relationship ex. Bees & flowering plants Commensalism-one species benefits and the other is neither helped or harmed ex. Clown fish & sea anemone Parasitism-one species benefits and the other is harmed or possibly killed host-term given to the organism that is harmed parasite-term given to the organism that benefits ex. Tapeworms & humans

Transfer of Energy in ecosystems Food chains & food webs are made up of the producers, consumers, decomposers and scavengers Producers are those organisms that can make their own food Consumers cannot make their own food there are 3 different kinds herbivore-eats only plants omnivore-eats plants and animals carnivore-eats only animals Decomposers break down waste and other dead materials Scavengers eat things that are dead

A food chain is how energy is transferred in a community A food chain is how energy is transferred in a community. Here we have grass being eaten by a grasshopper, a bird eating the grasshopper and a snake eating the bird. A food web is simply many overlapping food chains. A food chain is how energy is transferred in a community. Here we have grass being eaten by a grasshopper, a bird eating the grasshopper and a snake eating the bird.
