Tamaulipas Crossing the border: Land or sea travelers must have a valid U.S. passport (or U.S. citizenship documents such as a certified copy (not a simple photocopy or facsimile) of a U.S. birth certificate, a Naturalization Certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Citizenship are acceptable along with photo identification, such as a state or military issued ID) – U.S. Department of state U.S. citizens do not require a visa or a tourist card for tourist stays of 72 hours or less within "the border zone," defined as an area between 20 to 30 kilometers of the border with the U.S. Car Insurance: Cost: Approximately $30/24 hours Re-entry: As of January 31, 2008, adult U.S. citizen travelers who are seeking to enter the United States by land or sea must present both (1) proof of citizenship and (2) proof of identity in order to be admitted into the United States. Examples of acceptable proof of citizenship include a U.S. birth certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, or U.S. passport, either currently valid or expired. Examples of proof of identity include a passport, state-issued drivers license or identification, or a SENTRI/NEXUS/FAST card.
