Presentation transcript:

The Clean Water Act By Adam Salem Period 4

Basic Information The basis of the bill was passed in 1948, but it was remade and drafted in 1972. It is one of the most important environmental bills passed by congress. It was amended 3 times: in 1977, 1981, and 1987 The bill only applied nationally, not internationally moist

Description The Clean Water Act declares it unlawful to discharge pollutant from a point source into navigable waters without a permit. With a permit, one is only allowed controlled discharge of pollutants, not free rein. Homes that are connected to waste disposal systems such as septic tanks do not need a permit to dispose of waste, but deliberately made conveyors of waste such as ditches dug in the ground are not allowed. Homes and industry must obtain permits if their waste goes directly to surface water.

Enforcement The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) enforces this act, as they are the ones who create and distribute permits to those who obtain them.
