Summer/Fall Sports Information

Overview Purpose: Provide information on summer activities/camps and fall try-outs http://www.ndpma.org/athletics/ We encourage and promote multi-sport participation. Our focus is on the development of character and skills that prepare our students for a successful life

Summer Information Per the MHSAA, all summer activities are voluntary. Nothing is required However, every other student-athlete is working out during the summer. If you are at home, you should be here

Strength & Conditioning We have a certified full-time strength & conditioning coach – even over the summer Tailor workouts for in-season and off-season Sport specific FREE

Summer Information Summer dead period: July 1-7, 2018 NO activity (lifting, conditioning, open gym, team dinners, etc) during this time Make sure to get contact information from your coach – most sports have summer activities Coach contact information can also be found at www.ndpma.org/athletics/athletics-directory/

Calendar All NDPMA try-out information will be posted on website and in athletic newsletter The first day of football is August 6, 2018 The first day of girls swim & dive, volleyball, cross country, boys soccer, boys tennis and girls golf is August 8, 2018 Sideline cheer tryouts are June 3, 2018 Fall sports parent meeting is August 14, 2018 @ 7pm

Physicals Every student-athlete needs to have a valid physical on file in the athletic office – we cannot waive this rule Physical must be dated April 15, 2018 or later for the 2018-19 school year Even if your child had a physical less than a year ago, the date on the physical still must be on or after April 15, 2018 to be valid for the 2018-19 school year

Eligibility A student-athlete cannot accept cash or gift cards of any amount and/or gifts that exceed $25 for athletic performance. This includes gifts from parents, place of work, coaches, colleges, etc. Intention to give after the season or graduation is also a violation Transfer students are not eligible until they are cleared by the athletic office

Eligibility A student-athlete is a student-athlete 24/7, 365 days a year – this starts the first day the student is involved in sports until the last day of competition of their senior year Training rules include the off-season, homecoming, spring break (even out of the country), prom, the summer, etc. Become familiar with the student handbook!

Training Rules No smoking, chewing or other use of tobacco No use or distribution of any illegal drug or medication not prescribed to the user No use of performance enhancing drugs as defined by the NCAA No fighting, swearing The possession, use, buying or selling alcohol is illegal and is prohibited

Training Rules Student-athletes known to be where the illegal use of alcohol or other substances is present will be deemed guilty by association. If they stumble upon a situation where alcohol or drugs are present, they must leave immediately or risk penalty. The full student-athlete handbook can be found at www.ndpma.org/athletics/forms/

MHSAA Regulations and State Laws Please read the concussion protocol Student-athletes must obtain a doctor’s note for extended illnesses and injuries Please read the heat & humidity policy

MHSAA Regulations and State Laws Michigan Legislature enacted legislation that prohibits hazing activities at educational institutions and provides penalties. Hazing is defined in the law as an intentional, knowing or reckless act by a person who acted alone or with others that was directed against an individual and that person knew or should have known would endanger the physical health or safety of the individual, and that was done for the purpose of affiliation with, participation in, or maintaining membership in any organization.

MHSAA Regulations and State Laws Any person who uses or knowingly possesses an androgenic anabolic steroid violates Michigan law and is punishable by imprisonment and fine The promotion/distributing of performance enhancing supplements is prohibited and can be penalized under Michigan law The possession/use of any NCAA banned drug is prohibited and is subject to penalty
