I. Korean War (1950-1953) i. Korea is a small country off the east coast of China, just west of Japan. ii. After Japan was defeated, Korea was split up into North Korea and South Korea. They were divided at the 38th Parallel. a. North Korea controlled by U.S.S.R.- Communist b. South Korea controlled by USA- Capitalist iii. In 1948, both USA and U.S.S.R. leave Korea. The governments left behind followed their respective beliefs
