"Freedom for Animals Beograd, Serbia

Our society "Sloboda za zivotinje" "Freedom for Animals" was founded in Belgrade on , following a visit by Christian Sailer, the well known advocate of animal rights, who is with us here today. Our society "Sloboda za zivotinje" "Freedom for Animals" was founded in Belgrade on , following a visit by Christian Sailer, the well known advocate of animal rights. Christian, a doctor of philosophy and law, and in fact the principle prosecutor of the International Court for Animal Rights, in Geneva was invited by professors of the Law Faculty in Belgrade to lecture to the Forum Romanum club on the subject: "Constitutional Rights for Animals".

Thus the definition of a Constitutional article which guarantees animals' right to life, in accordance with their species, was introduced to Serbia. Some days later on the invitation of "Universal Life" he presented the book "Animals Lament - The Prophet Denounces!", at the Student's Cultural Centre. This exceptional book deals with the reasons why, our civilisation which calls itself Christian, treats animals as creatures without feelings or soul, and the consequence of this attitude. Many of those present were moved to take action. So the first society in Serbia was founded with a clearly defined programme and ideas for the freedom of animals.

From the beginning we have been collecting signatures to petitions against hunting, and for constitutional rights for animals in Serbia.

This year we appeared with these billboards at the largest music festival, in southeast Europe - EXIT with 150,000 visitors, which is held in the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad. A large number of young people visited our stand and reacted very positively to our promotion, posters and brochures - "8 Nutritional Lies" and "8 Hunting Lies". They also signed our petitions and applied for our Newsletter.

Recently we have been concentrating on the legal rights of animals which led to our collaboration with the association "Lawyers for Democracy", and to organisation of the "Centre for the advancement and protection of animals' legal rights", whose representative Dr, Stephen Lilic is here with us today.
