The National Student Survey 2014 THE TEACHING ON MY COURSE Keele Score Rank 98 2 97 2 99 1 96 9 1. Staff are good at explaining things 2. Staff have made the subject interesting 3. Staff are enthusiastic about what they are teaching 4. The course is intellectually stimulating These are the 22 questions that constitute the National Student Survey. They are re-used every year and I do not think that any of them have been changed despite quite a lot of feedback from various institutions. The outcomes for Keele School of Medicine are given in the right hand columns. The scores are notional percentages calculated from the student responses (they gave a score from 1 to 5). The notional percentage is the fraction of all students responding giving 4 or 5 as their response (converted to a percentage). For all practical purposes a score of 80 is the expected standard. Keele achieved 80 or more in all of the questions. The column headed rank gives the Keele score as a rank against the other schools who completed the survey. A rank of 2, question 1 for example, indicates that one School of Medicine received a higher mark and all the others an equal or lower mark. The question most used for national comparisons is question 22 – the overall satisfaction score. Keele was 2nd equal (with St Andrews) in the 2014 NSS. Graduating Excellent Clinicians

Graduating Excellent Clinicians Finally, this image presents the data of the previous table graphically. The main point is that the variation in rank is wide – a small change in overall satisfaction can have a big effect on ranking position because most scores are bunched closely together at the top of the scale. If you use the cursor to hover over the lines you will see which School is that colour and symbol. Graduating Excellent Clinicians
