STUDENT SNAPSHOT Name: Natalie Arendt Country: Poland University: Technical University of Lodz Subject: Architecture and Urban Planning Level: 1 st Year Undergraduate IDEA: Thermocouple Construction THE IDEA Using the Seebeck effect in the management of the thermal energy of the building is an innovation not yet used widely in construction and is based on measuring temperature (thermocouple). The idea is to use the temperature difference on opposite walls of the building envelope or the difference in temperature outside the building and the ground and attaching thermocouples to measure difference in electrical potential between the walls of the building – generating electricity. BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT Most investors are interested in minimizing operating costs of buildings., particularly significant energy costs. Currently, despite the crisis, all forecasts predict growth of construction investment, and hence potential demand for ecological and economical ways of obtaining energy in buildings. In the market of passive construction, energy self-sufficiency and independence from external suppliers. Is the main driver to energy-efficient solutions in 100% new construction and retrofitting investments. ADDED VALUE My idea will provide energy cost savings generated on the basis of conventional energy sources. To some extent, independent from external energy suppliers. Future user will reach a direct financial benefit at the same time contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Energy will be derived from natural renewable sources of heat (sun, temperature, substrate, water, etc.). The customer can get the product through multiple channels: direct sales, the sale as part of the investment (part of the energy system of the building).. Case Study 8 Natalia Arendt Thermocouple Construction Energy2b helped me translate my idea, step by step on professional business plan. I liked the interesting training.

EXPERT FEEDBACK The idea is based on the use the seebeck effect to produce electricity which is very interesting and innovative regarding its potential usage in buildings to generate electricity. It is not clear if (modern) materials and engineering could lead to the suggested panels to generate cost-efficient energy. On the other hand, the financial overview shows a good indication of the costs to proceed! MARKET Targeting building investors, developers, construction and architectural companies and individual clients the company's mission is to seek innovative and green solutions and the promotion and implementation of these solutions into general use. The company will be to convince consumers that organic solutions bring economic benefits as a result. The company will sell these solutions and the right to use them. Idea of applying the thermocouple will be the first of many similar energy-saving solutions. I want my company to be perceived as a company seeking cost savings by using green solutions. Our motto: "economy of nature" STUDENT VIEW I think it was for me a very good lesson from which I learned a lot. I met new issues of entrepreneurship. I know how to create my own business plan. Thanks to the competition I know how hard is it to sell your own product. Competition has made me more aware of environmental problems. I think we should take care about it what surrounds us to live in conditions favourable for us. WHAT NEXT… As a first year undergraduate Natalia wants to focus on her studies but with the entrepreneurial insight that Energy2B has provided Natalia hopes to build on her business skills and environmental knowledge using her time at University to Network and strenegthen her position to launch the business.
