About Me I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from UCF in 2005. Then in 2012 I completed my masters with NASA Endeavor and Adams University in STEM Curriculum. I am certified in Elementary, General Science 5-9, and Technology 9-12 I have taught science and engineering to students in grades k-8 in my ten years of teaching. I currently I teach science and robotics at Indian Trails Middle School.

Engineering Design Process

Criteria- what a design must have Constraint- limitations on a design Standards: SC.7.E.6.5- Explore the scientific theory of plate tectonics by describing how the movement of Earths Crustal plates causes both slow and rapid changes in the Earths surface, including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and mountain building. SC.6.N.1.3- Discuss, compare, and negotiate methods used, results obtained, and explanations, among groups of students conducting the same investigation. Learning Goal: I can discuss evidence of how I applied each step of the engineering design process to get my outcome. Criteria- what a design must have Constraint- limitations on a design Learning Reflection: How did the constraints on this design challenge effect your design?

Problem Ask Criteria: (what a design must have ) To design and build a mobile launcher platform that will hold as many marbles as possible and withstand a marsquake. Ask Criteria: (what a design must have ) Your platform must be at least 10 cm tall. Your platform must hold a cup for the marbles to be placed in. Your platform and cup must be able to withstand shaking from the marsquake platform. Constraints: (limitations on a design) Your platform must not bend a lot or fall over with the weight or shaking. You must build your platform within your 7 dollar budget. You can not put any tape on the cup or damage the cup in any way because it is your return rocket.

Levels of Challenge Level one 10 marbles in the cup light marsquake Level two 20 marbles in the cup moderate marsquake Level three 40 marbles in the cup heavy marsquake

Constraint Budget First Index card and cup free Replacement if damaged 3 dollars each Straws 50 cents new Popsicle sticks 50 cents Tape 50 cents every 10 cms Toothpicks 25 cents (Some reasons for a budget are to control supplies cost, to spark student conversations, and to teach real world problem solving)

Imagine and Plan Imagine Plan For 5 minutes of silence draw your idea for the platform Plan Then with your partner brainstorm 5 minutes and draw a blueprint using both of your ideas.

Create You have about 20 minutes to build and test your platform.
