Financial Aid Applications The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.gov The Dream Application https://dream.csac.ca.gov OR

What is Financial Aid? Need based aid, does not have be repaid. Merit or need based aid, does not have to be repaid. Earn money to pay for expenses, on-campus or off-campus job required.

Follow Up If you completed the FAFSA online AND provided an email address you should have received the results of the FAFSA which is called a Student Aid Report (SAR) via email. Dream Act filers can check their application status by visiting www.caldreamact.org. Review your SAR or Dream Act application for accuracy and comments that require follow up. Please consistently monitor your email for communication from the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office.

Verification Process Students may be randomly selected for “Verification” by the Department of Education (FAFSA) or the California Student Aid Commission (Dream Act) The Financial Aid & Scholarships office may request: Verification Worksheet Copies of tax transcripts W-2 forms Processing of an application will be delayed if documents are not submitted or incomplete Verification may take up to 4-6 weeks to process

Methods of Communication & Submitting Forms myCI email Methods of Submitting Forms Drop off in-person at the Enrollment Center (Sage Hall, Room 1020) Send by mail (Attn: Financial Aid & Scholarships, CSU Channel Islands, One University Drive, Camarillo, CA 93012) Scan and email to financial.aid@csuci.edu  (please read email encryption instructions)

FAFSA Dream Act Types of Financial Aid Private Scholarships! State Grants: Cal Grant A or B Middle Class Grant State University Grant Institutional Scholarships Federal Grants: Pell & SEOG FAFSA Dream Act Federal Loans Student and Parent Federal Work Study

Federal Direct Loans for Students Subsidized Loans Awarded based on need as determined by FAFSA Amounts vary depending on grade level The current interest rate on the loan is fixed at 4.45%* Unsubsidized Loans Not based on financial need The current interest rate is fixed at 4.45%* *Rates are subject to change annually

Federal Direct Loans for Parents Direct Parent PLUS Loan Parents will apply for the loan via studentloans.gov Complete Application (includes credit check) Complete Master Promissory Note (MPN) The current interest rate is fixed at 7.00%* Parent PLUS loan cannot be accepted in myCI If the Parent PLUS loan is denied, the student is eligible for an additional unsubsidized loan. *Rates are subject to change annually

What are my out of pocket expenses? Step 1: Review your Financial Aid Award (Award Summary) in your myCI student center Step 2: Review your Account Summary for your total charges (available starting July 1st) or review the Cost of Attendance on the financial aid website (housing costs may vary) Step 3: Determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive for the Fall 2018 term Step 4: Calculate your out of pocket expenses = Out of pocket expense

Additional Options to Cover Balance If your financial aid grants, scholarships, and student loans do not fully cover your University charges (tuition, fees, on-campus housing and meal plan), the following are additional options to consider… Enroll in a Payment Plan Tuition Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) www.csuci.edu/sbs/tipp Email: sbs@csuci.edu Housing Installment Payment Plan (HIPP or IPP) www.csuci.edu/housing/accommodations-rates/payment-options-deadlines Email: student.housing@csuci.edu

Additional Options to Cover Balance Search for Off-Campus Scholarships A word of caution, if it costs you money to search or apply, it is probably not a legitimate opportunity. Apply for a Direct PLUS Loan So long as their credit is approved, the borrower may request an amount up to the student’s Cost of Attendance minus all other financial aid. Apply for a Private Education Loan This is a credit-based loan and we encourage students to have a co-signer to reduce the variable interest rate.
