Reader’s Workshop Essential question: How can we identify the beginning, middle, end sounds in words? CCS:RF 2- Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes)

What? Why? How? What –Today we identify the beginning, middle, and end sounds in words Why- knowing how to identify sounds will help us learn to read words. How- We will participate in a mini-lesson, guided practice, independent practice, and small group activities.

Mastery By the end of this lesson we will be able to identify the beginning, middle, end sounds in words I can identify the middle sound to read words.

Building Background We have learned that each letter makes a specific sound. Let’s review the sounds the letters make.

Vocabulary Blend- to put sounds together to make words.

Power teaching Class: We can use our sounds to help us write words we don’t know how to spell. Teach: Explain to your partner how to write words you don’t know how to spell.

Check for Understanding Use your sounds to spell the words.

Connection There are many times we will get to words we don’t know. We can blend sounds together to help figure out words we don’t know. Think, pair, share: ways to figure out words you don’t know.
