Bluetooth SIG Overview March 2003 Bluetooth SIG Overview Bluetooth SIG is a not-for-profit Trade Association, having more than 2000 member companies, which has open membership The SIG values the critical review the IEEE provides and has incorporated the vast majority of approved comments from 802.15.1 process International Standard status provides benefits to both the Standards community and the SIG Tom Siep, TMS Consultants

Status of Bluetooth Specification v1.1 since 22Feb01 March 2003 Status of Bluetooth Specification v1.1 since 22Feb01 Version 1.1 (v1.1) has been published and not updated since Feb 2001. Some errata from the IEEE review has been approved, but not yet integrated into the text until now New version, v1.2, is in the process of being formed: Format + Fixes + Features (next slide) There is an opportunity to aid and influence the new spec Tom Siep, TMS Consultants

March 2003 IEEE Overview The IEEE published the Project 802.15.1 draft on 14Jun02 and it was made available via Get IEEE 802™. We anticipate that in the next few weeks that the informative SDL source code (Annex B) will be provided via Get IEEE 802™. Based on recent BSIG>IEEE liaisons and the summary of the edits to v1.1 to create v1.2 we understand that this will likely be an amendment to IEEE 802.15.1™. Tom Siep, TMS Consultants

Status of IEEE Std 802.15.1™-2002 or since 14Jun02 March 2003 doc.: IEEE 802.15-<175> March 2003 Status of IEEE Std 802.15.1™-2002 or since 14Jun02 The IEEE 802.15.1-2002 was published on 14Jun03; this is based on the Bluetooth Specification v1.1 “L2CAP and Below” This standard includes the Bluetooth L2CAP, LMP, Baseband, Radio parts as well as introduces an SDL and the SAPs are defined (see note for 15.1 abstract. The TG1 has the approved and published source files (*.FM) and graphics (*.EPS). The lower transport layers [(Logical Link Control and Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP), Link Manager Protocol (LMP), baseband, and radio] of the Bluetooth™ wireless technology are defined. Bluetooth is an industry specification for short-range radio frequency (RF)-based connectivity for portable personal devices. The IEEE 802.15.1 Task Group has reviewed and provided a standard adaptation of the Bluetooth specifications (version 1.1) medium access control (MAC) (L2CAP, LMP, and baseband) and physical layer (PHY) (radio). Also specified is a clause on service access points (SAPs), which includes a logical link control (LLC)-MAC interface for the ISO/IEC 8802-2 LLC. A normative annex is included that provides a Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma, and an informative high-level behavioral ITU-T Z.100 specification and description language (SDL) model for an integrated Bluetooth MAC sublayer are also specified.
