DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) DSL is an always-on technology meaning that you dont have to dial up each time you want to connect to the internet. With DSL you can be on the internet and have a phone call at the same time. You can do this because the phone company the bandwidth of the analog voice on the lines There are a few thing to consider when choosing DSL. DSL has distance limitations. The lines used with DSL were designed to carry analog information. Meaning that the distance that the signal can be sent is limited. Another thing to consider is that the information and data must be separated at the customer site. You have to have a device called a splitter that separates the connection to the phones and the connection to the local network devices.

ADSL ( Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) ADSL is the most commonly used DSL technology. ADSL has different bandwidth capabilities in each direction. ADSL has fast download speed but a slow upload speed The download speed is typically around 1.5 Mbps. While the upload speed is a lot slower than that. Because of the slow upload rate of ADSL it typically does not work well when hosting a web server or FTP server.
