My Educational Philosophy All students are capable of success. Learning should be engaging and enjoyable. Learning should challenge students to be better, not just reinforce success they have already attained.

Ways You Can Help Discuss with your child the papers we are writing or the pieces of literature we are reading. Check your child’s grade on HAC. Always feel free to write me or talk with me if you have any questions or concerns.

Grading Scale Academic Achievement Grades – 70% Academic Practice Grades – 30% No grades are dropped and no extra credit is offered. What you can expect each six weeks: 3-5 Academic Achievement grades a six weeks (timed writings, process papers, projects and presentations) 8-10 Academic Practice grades a six weeks

More Gradebook Notes Z = student did not turn in the assignment (this calculates as a zero until a new grade is recorded) 0 = no credit was earned X = assignment does not count for or against student Grades will be updated as quickly as it is possible for me to grade assignments. (Papers generally take me 10 to 15 minutes each, so you can expect grading of these academic achievement assignments to take one to two weeks). Most assignments are due at the end of the six weeks.

Late Work Policy Any work (academic practice or academic achievement) handed in one day late will receive a 15 point deduction. For two days late, the grade will be docked another 15 points. Work will not be accepted after two days past the due date. Students receive two extend-a-bucks a semester to extend assignments 24 hours (cannot be used for oral reports, project presentations, tests, and quizzes). Bucks can also be used to add an extra point to a six week’s average.

Makeup Work Policy School policy states that a student will be allowed the number of days absent plus one additional day to complete make-up assignments. The student is expected to complete pre-announced work on time Work missed during a planned absence, such as a UIL activity or a school fieldtrip, is the responsibility of the student and is due when the rest of the class turns in the work. Work due on the day of a planned absence must be turned in on or before the due date or it is considered late.
