Leadership Strategies for Uncertain Times Kate Rubin Minnesota High Tech Association Carlson School of Management First Tuesday May 5, 2009 Thanks so much for this opportunity, Thanks to Dean Davis Blake and the Carlson School, you all do a great job with training our next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders, as well as creating these terrific events. I hope you will all find at least one nugget that you can apply to your personal as well as professional lives today, even if you are NOT working in a technology company per se. On the other hand, everyone today is participating in today’s global knowledge economy, whether we’ve stopped to think about it or not. So, let’s begin by looking at what I’d like to share with you today.

Leadership Strategies for Uncertain Times My Leadership Lens Uncertainty & Recent History Personal Leadership Strategies Strategies for Creating an Innovation Ecosystem I want to first share my own personal leadership lens, how I developed my perspective, how I think about things based on my work and life experiences, so you can understand both how I arrived at these ideas as well as perhaps considering what is the Lens that you look through. As we’ll discuss, that Lens can make a big difference in your personal and professional success. Next, I’d like to look at the idea of Uncertainty and Recent History, to put it in perspsctive. Then we’ll examine some personal leadership strategies for dealing with uncertainty, as well as some ideas for creating an Innovation Ecosystem here in the region.
