Jesus Heals the Ten Lepers
Presentation transcript:

Luke 17:11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” NIV

1. Jesus serves people Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. Border town feelings; tolerance or hate All were Jews “ go, show yourself to the priests”

2. Only 10% of people are grateful SAY THANK YOU FOR WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN YOUR LIFE! Count your blessings There is power in naming your blessings out loud Intentionally combat selfishness Going back to say “thank you” may be inconvenient or embarrassing.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed, When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Refrain: Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, *Count your many blessings, see what God has done. [*And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, And you will keep singing as the days go by. Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, *Count your many blessings, see what God has done. [*And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.]

When you look at others with their lands and gold, Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold; Count your many blessings wealth can never buy Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high. Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done. So, amid the conflict whether great or small, Do not be discouraged, God is over all; Count your many blessings, angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end. 3. Gratitude changes you The plight of a Biblical leper When God takes a long time to answer Entitlement to gratefulness Spoiled to humble Covetous to content “I want” to “thank you”

4. The one from “the other side of the border” said “thanks.” One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?

4. The one from “the other side of the border” said “thanks.” Jesus said this to the Jewish religious leaders “Look for the spirituality among the outsiders.” Don’t belittle it Summary of the last 10 weeks

So What? Create a “grateful list” (see insert) As you write, let God change you Create a habit of gratitude rather than complaining
