Many Vietnamese people fled their country. They went to refugee camps, or traveled by boats to new places. Many families ended up separated. Nguyen (nōō yen) is the main character’s family name. Her given name (first name) is Hoa (hwä), which means “flower”. Ut (ōōt) is her nickname★ meaning youngest daughter. Quang (kwäng) is her younger brother and her older sister is Chi Hai (chē hī).
