You should look at the puzzle I made! Pedro stood on his head. Jean would like to ride her bike. The chimp shook hands with the zookeeper.

6 Robust Vocabulary gently – If you do something gently, you do it in a way that is careful and kind. smothered – If you smother something, you cover it completely so that it has no air. How would you sound if you spoke gently to a small child? Should spaghetti be smothered with tomato sauce? Explain.

7 Robust Vocabulary replied – when you answered someone’s question, you replied. pleaded – If you plead, you beg someone for something. When was the last time you replied to something? What is something you recently pleaded for?

8 Robust Vocabulary fragrant – Something that is fragrant has a pleasing, sweet smell. grunted – If you grunted, you made a small, deep sound in your throat. Would a fragrant flower make you sneeze? Why? If an answer is grunted, is it easy to understand? Explain.

9 Pages Why do you think Tess dreamed of bread smothered with butter? Why do you think Tess pleaded to the star? Why might Tess have had a hard time hearing the pig when it knocked gently on her door?

What had Tess replied to? What fragrant object did Tess smell?

11 Reading Fiction Is fiction real or fake? Does it have characters or real people? Remember, there’s a plot which has a problem and a ___________. In the plot, story events CAUSE the characters to act the way they do.

As we read our story this week, we will use this graphic organizer or chart to guide our thinking. Cause Effect When I read a story, I try to figure out why things happen and what happens. In the story “The Cat Who Walked Across France,” the cat is shipped north – effect – because the woman dies – cause.

We are going to read a story about a boy who wants a bagel, but there are no bagels where he lives. Give me a thumbs-up if you have eaten a bagel before. What does it look like?

Yum Yung wrote a letter to correspond with someone in New York. correspond – If you correspond with someone, you write a letter or an to that person.
