THE Berliner's Guide to the 1936 Summer Olympiad Brought to you by MATTHEW cockerham, Daniel MoylAn, colby teller, and quinlan keys

Intro into the Olympics of 1936 In 1931, Berlin was given the privilege to host the 1936 Olympic Games. This showed Germany's comeback to the 'world community' after being defeated in World War I. A couple of years later, leader of the Nazis Adolf Hitler was named chancellor of Germany. He turned Germany into a one party dictatorship by persuading the Germans into his plans. On August 1, 1936, Hitler opened the games, which was the 11th Olympic (Summer) Games. A famous ritual also began during this Olympics, the lighting of the torch. One runner would arrive carrying a torch from Olympia, Greece. There were many things happening outside of the sports side of the Olympics, including controversial propaganda, excluding German sports, and how Jewish Athletes were treated. This presentation will include stats, famous athletes, and more on the 1936 Olympic Games.

Important People In the "Nazi Olympics" The People Listed Below are some of the more Important People in the Olympiad besides the two people that are the focus of this part of the presentation. Important People In the "Nazi Olympics" Inge Sorensen Helene Mayer Louis Zamperini Marjorie Gestring Luz Long Naoto Tajima The American Rowing team (Don Hume, Joseph Rantz, George E. Hunt, James B. McMillin, John G. White, Gordon B. Adam, Charles Day, Roger Morris, and Robert G. Moch.) There were many Important and Influential People in the 1936 Olympic Games both athletically and politically. The two most Influential though were  Chancellor Adolf Hitler and  American Athlete Jesse Owens.

Adolf Hitler was the Führer and Chancellor of the 1936 Olympic games he is the one who opened it. The 1936 Olympic Games were trying to be boycotted by many because of Hitler. These people thought attending these Olympics was a form of saying Adolf's Nazi regime was acceptable in the public eyes. Adolf hosted these games nonetheless and his plan to prove that Germany was a stable and prosperous country after World War I backfired and succeeded in many ways. Adolf Hitler

Jesse Owens was by far the most influential athlete of the 1936 Olympic games. Jesse competed and won 4 Gold medals in these Olympics he tied a world record and broke three others. Despite the amazing job he did at the games Jesse unlike most star Olympic athletes had trouble finding a job after his career because he was African American. Jesse Owens not only proved to Hitler that his idea of Ayran supremacy was false, but also to America that you don't have to be white to succeed in what you are good at. Jesse Owens

Other facilities for athletes at the village included an indoor swimming facility and a cinema.
