Ecology Chapter 2 Section 3 ENERGY FLOW Ecology Chapter 2 Section 3

FOOD CHAIN Energy moves from one organism to another when one organism becomes food for another organism.

Energy Transfer Food chain Producers are the first step in a food chain Primary consumers - Animals that consume producers (also known as _______) are the second step Secondary consumers – animals that eat other consumers (also known as _______ and ________) are the third step.

Producer grass

Producer – primary consumer grass - deer

Producer – primary consumer – secondary consumer grass - deer - cheetah Notice how the arrows are pointing? Why do you think it is pointing that way?

On your food chain write the organisms’ name and label them producer, primary consumer, and secondary consumer.

FOOD WEB A model that shows all the possible feeding relationships among the organisms in a community. A food web is made up of many different food chains.
