Learning Outcomes Pupils will: know why it is important to do 60 minutes physical activity every day understand the difference between light, moderate and intense physical activity plan their weekly physical activity diary engage in a ‘Just Dance’ physical activity make a class pledge to become ‘Fit Factor Champions’ 2

Do you want to become a Fit Factor Champion? Fit Faye Today we are going to learn all about physical activity and why we should be doing lots every day. Do you all know what physical activity is? It is when we move our bodies. When we do exercise, sports or play in the playground we are doing physical activity. Today I am going to teach you about being fit and healthy. Do you all want to become Fit Factor Champions? This is Fit Faye and she will teach you everything you need to know about being a Fit Factor Champion. 3

Being a Fit Factor Champion is NOT about… Being a Fit Factor Champion is not about being the fastest at races, being picked for a sports team or having the best trainers. 4

Let us look and see what being a Fit Factor Champion is all about Fit Faye is going to tell us what being a Fit Factor Champion involves. 5

A Fit Factor Champion… Has FUN! Keeps a physical activity diary Knows why physical activity is good for us Understands the 3 different types of physical activity Encourages others to do lots of physical activity Has FUN! 6

Let’s look and see WHY we need to do physical activity every day… Does anyone know why we need to do lots of physical activity? Why do you think it is important? 7

It keeps your weight healthy and gives you lots of energy! As well as being good for our brains, hearts, lungs, bones AND muscles… (read text in box). 13

If we are not careful, we can sit, be lazy, play video games and watch TV for too long. This is not good for our bodies. The only rest our bodies need is when we go to sleep at night! We should be moving lots throughout the day if we want to be fit and healthy. 14

We are going to look at the 3 different types of physical activity that you can do to become a Fit Factor Champion! 15

There are 3 different types of physical activity! Light physical activity Moderate physical activity Intense physical activity 16

Light physical activity You are moving but not very fast. Your heart beats a little bit quicker than normal and you do not sweat. You are able to sing whilst doing light physical activity! Get children to clap out the beats. 60 beats per minute (i.e. 1 beat per second) represents light physical activity. You can also use a drum or tambourine to count out beats. 17

Moderate physical activity Your heart beats faster and you sweat a little. You will be able to talk but not be able to sing whilst doing moderate physical activity! Get children to clap out the beats. 120 beats per minute (i.e. 2 beats per second) represents moderate physical activity. You can also use a drum or tambourine to count out beats. 18

Intense physical activity You are breathing hard and fast. Your heart will be beating really quickly and you are sweating. You will not be able to say more than 3 words at a time without stopping for a breath. You will not be able to sing whilst doing intense physical activity! Get children to clap out the beats. 180 beats per minute (i.e. 3 beats per second) represents physical activity. You can also use a drum or tambourine to count out beats. 19

Intense physical activity is the best type of physical activity but all types are good! 20

Activity Time You are now going to look at different activities and decide if they are light, moderate or intense! Remember… = Light = Moderate = Remember: 1 clap per second = light physical activity 2 claps per second = moderate physical activity 3 claps per second = intense physical activity Intense 21

Now let us ask Fit Faye how much physical activity we need to do every day! 72

You need at least 60 minutes of intense or moderate physical activity every day Lunch time is half of the 60 minutes of physical activity that you need. Break time is a quarter of the 60 minutes that you need. 73

Watch this Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfCC3Sjz8Dk 74

So if you try really hard, you can do most of the physical activity that you need to do each day in school! 75

At break time and lunch time you can do lots of physical activity in the playground! What physical activity do you do in the playground? 76

But you still need at least 15 minutes of physical activity after school What physical activity do you do after school? 77

Here are some great activities that you can do after school to help reach your 60 minutes of physical activity Does anyone do any of these activities? 78

Don’t forget to do 60 minutes of physical activity at the weekends also! What physical activity does everyone do at the weekends? 79

Activity Time Plan the activities that you are going to do next week by completing a physical activity diary. Make sure you get 60 minutes of physical activity every day! 80
