The student may earn all 4 credits from foundation courses OR 3 from foundation courses and 1 from enhancement courses for the Career Cluster. What is a career cluster? It identifies pathways from secondary school to two- and four-year colleges, graduate school, and the workplace, so students can link what they learn in school and what they can do in the future allow students to access a nationwide framework to help them better analyze their long- and short-term career goals Helps students plan on what to take in high school to begin to prepare them for high-skill, high-wage, high-demand careers in the 21st Century. What is Work-Based Learning? Work-based learning (WBL) provides students with real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop employability skills. WBL occurs in a work setting, typically at an employer's worksite, coordinated with school-based activities in an attempt to show students the "why" of what they are learning. Work-based learning strategies provide career awareness, career exploration opportunities, career planning activities, and help students reach competencies such as positive work attitudes and employability skills.

How is WORK BASED LEARNING connected to coursework? COOPERATIVE EDUCATION Tied directly to technical classroom instruction can sometimes be combined with paid employment JOB SHADOWING & INTERNSHIPS Observe and participate in daily job tasks (don’t have to be connected to the coursework and are considered to be independent work-based learning)

Other types of WORK BASED LEARNING SERVICE LEARNING MENTORSHIPS ENTREPRENEURAL EXPERIENCES APPRENTICESHIPS Works on the job and is taught by an experienced person SCHOOL-BASED ENTERPRISES  Simulated or actual business conducted by a school Ex: School Store
