Career & Technical A Glance “Discover Your Potential--Graduate College and Career Ready” David Q. Moreno, CTE Director

2 General CTE Information
Career & Technical Education classes combine high-quality, rigorous instruction with real-life experiences to prepare students for the future. CTE offers a variety of programs within 14 career clusters that equip students to achieve at high levels whether they want to get a head start with college by earning college credit, earn a state or nationally recognized certification or license, or enter the workforce after high school graduation. CTE is an enrichment program that supports the general education curriculum (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies). One of the ways the effectiveness of our CTE program is evaluated is through the PBMAS accountability system.

3 Areas of Need CTE LEP STAAR EOC Passing Rate in English Language Arts (43.0%) Performance Indicator = 2* CTE Nontraditional Course Completion Rate—Males (21.2%) Performance Indicator = 2* * As Indicated on PBMAS

4 How is the CTE department addressing these areas?
CTE staff has implemented an ‘awareness’ plan of action for students and parents on what opportunities are available for all students. CTE staff participates in campus-wide staff developments, such as SIOP (for ELL strategies) and cooperative learning training. The implementation is demonstrated in lesson plans, posted learning objectives and language objectives, as well as through administrator walk-throughs. Additionally, CTE staff attends specialized staff developments for their programs of study. CTE staff participates in ARDs. CTE staff implements accommodations outlined in our students’ IEPs.

5 Addressing the Needs continued
CTE staff will monitor the progress of their students that are identified as special population groups through attendance reports, progress reports, report card grades, student schedules, LEP modification forms and tutorial attendance. CTE staff will continue to increase the rigor by offering more dual certificate programs, industry recognized certifications and licenses which target the integration of the core areas in a real world setting. CTE department, secondary and elementary campuses will educate and encourage males to enroll in nontraditional courses highlighting the benefits available in these potential careers, inviting male guest speakers in these areas and offering job shadowing experiences in these nontraditional fields.

6 Additional CTE Information
