Space, the final frontier SPACE TRAVEL Space, the final frontier

Astronaut A person that is trained to be a pilot, navigator or scientist in space.

Exploration To travel for the purpose of discovery.

International Space Station A large satellite equipped to support a human crew and designed to remain in orbit around Earth. Serves as a base for exploration, research, and repair of satellites International Space Station

Life-Support System Equipment that makes life possible in the deadly space environment. What life-support system is this astronaut using?

Probe A space ship with no people but with instruments and cameras sent into space to get information that it sends back to Earth.

Rocket Used to launch objects into orbit or escape Earth’s gravity entirely. Rockets burn fuel which pushes gas out the back of the rocket making the rocket move. Rocket

Rover A crewed or uncrewed vehicle used in exploring the terrain of a planet. Able to get information that it sends back to Earth. Mars Rover

Telescope Hubble Telescope Takes pictures of planets, stars and galaxies billions of light years away. Orbits above the Earth’s atmosphere. Hubble Telescope

Satellite An object that orbits another object. Natural Satellites are moons that orbit planets. Artificial Satellites are man-made. They send and receive info. about earth and space. Natural Satellites Artificial Satellite

Space Shuttle A reusable spacecraft with wings designed to be launched like a rocket, to carry out a mission, and to land on Earth like an airplane. They bring people, equipment and satellites into space.
