3.7 Extension Activity

Learn to classify numbers as rational or irrational and graph them on a number line.

Vocabulary irrational number real number

A decimal that is nonterminating with no repeating pattern is an irrational number. For example, = 1.4142135 . . ., which does not terminate or repeat.

The set of real numbers consists of the set of rational numbers and the set of irrational numbers.
