A volcano is an opening, or vent, in the Earth’s crust through which magma and gases are expelled.
Types of Lava and. What’s the Difference? Magma is composed of molten rock and is stored in the Earth's crust. Lava is magma that reaches the surface.
Volcanoes What is a Volcano? A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet's surface or crust, which allows hot magma, volcanic ash and gases to escape.
Features of Plate Tectonics Scientists believe that Earth began as a molten ball over 4.5 billion years ago! as it cooled, denser materials sank.

Location  It is located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The volcano is about 20 miles (32 km) north of Yogyakarta and somewhat farther south of Semarang.  It is situated at a subduction zone, where the Indo-Australian Plate is subducting under the Sunda Plate

history Even though Mount Merapi is the youngest Volcano in Southern Java, it happnes to be the most active one. Stratigraphic analysis reveals that eruptions in the Merapi area began about 400,000 years ago, and from then until about 10,000 years ago, eruptions were typically effusive, and the out flowing lava emitted was basaltic (dark rock of lava).  Eruptions have become more explosive over time, with viscous andesitic lavas that form long, thick flows often generating lava domes. Mount Merapi in 1930

features Latitude (dd): Country: -7.54 Indonesia Longitude (dd):  -7.54  Indonesia Longitude (dd):  State (Province, etc):   110.44  Java Elevation (m):  Type:   2911  Stratovolcano

facts Mount Merapi erupts every two to three years and citizens are now used to it. Notable eruptions, often causing many deaths, have occurred in 1006, 1786, 1822, 1872, and 1930. Seismic monitoring began in 1924, with some of the volcano monitoring stations lasting until. The volcano is considered sacred by some local people who believe a supernatural kingdom exists atop Merapi Every year a priest climbs to the top to make an offering. the present.
