The eruption of Mt. Tambora On the northern coast of Sumbawa island, Indonesia Occurred during April of 1815

This composite volcano erupted 200 years ago and created what is considered as the one of the most explosive volcanic eruptions in Earth’s history. The eruption caused the face to the left of the mountain to be eroded down and it caused the vent on the top to be widened and deepened. The eruption blew 4000 feet of material off the top and left a crater 4 miles across and 2000 feet deep. Before the eruption, the mountain used to stand feet high.

The eruption caused vibrations that’s were able to cross those bodies of water to reach Borneo, java, and others. The eruption was heard more than 1200 miles away on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo.

There were large amounts of ash and other materials that were deposited into the atmosphere and settled on neighboring islands. Ejected material was blown to the north west and didn’t cause as many problems for Australia as it did for the islands nearby. The incandescent ash rushed down the sides of the mountain at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. Ash rained town from the atmosphere for weeks and crushed houses. Like the snow we had last week but heavier and got into your lungs and scratched them.

This person was preserved in the lava similar to those who died during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Pompeii. The flows of lava and ash destroyed everything that it touched until it reached the sea. It is thought that around 10,000 people were killed instantly either by falling ash, lung infections, or lava. It is estimated that 60,000 to 90,000 due to starvation form dead crops, disease, or dehydration from contaminated water sources.

The eruption took place in the Indonesian islands just off the coast of northern Australia.
The isolation of the islands that housed the eruption kept it from affecting more people. If it was in a location such as in Russia with closer neighbors, it would’ve had a greater affect due to the populated area.

These islands were just above the northern border of the India-Australia plate.

The volcano and the islands were next to a subduction zone, which would cause volcanoes on the stationary plate.

Other places where this could occur are on the southern part of Alaska, western mexico and south America, and on the lower half of Europe.

A place that this could occur in the us is on the Western coast along Washington, Oregon, and California. An eruption here would be devastating due to the heavily populated states. A similar eruption with the same quantities of ejected would cause a epidemic of violent diarrhea just like what happened in the Philippians
