Halloween poems

Step one – Halloween words? We need to think up of some words we associate with Halloween. Think of monsters, objects, types of candy.

Halloween night treat black cats, witches, brooms, skeletons, ghouls, masks ghosts, moon, candy, orange pumpkins, jack o lanterns,

Step two – Finding rhymes We need to find words which rhyme with our Halloween words. If they could be spooky, scary or associated with Halloween as well, all the better.

Halloween – seen, teen, mean, spleen, queen Night – fright, , bright, blight, smite Treat – street, meet, greet, feet black cat – bat, rat, splat Witches – itches, stitches Broom – costume, room, doom, tomb Skeleton – gelatine (jelly) Ghoul – fool, drool, school, duel Mask – task, flask, ask Ghosts – most, posts (internet) Moon – balloon, cartoon, Candy – handy, dandy Pumpkins- (very little rhymes with pumpkin bumpkin, frumkin, lumpkin) jack o lantern – pattern, Saturn

Step three – creating a story Look at the words at your disposal, the words that you have to play with. Imagine a story that might unfold from these words. What shall happen on Halloween night? You must have a rhyming scheme but you may choose which one. _____A _____A _____A _____A _____B _____B _____B _____A _____C _____B _____B _____B At least two stanzas, at most three stanzas.
