Per Knudsen, DTU Space Powered by GOCE Rel.1 MDT tests: Per Knudsen, DTU Space Powered by

MDTs = DTU10MSS - EIGEN4S or - GOCE DIR r1 Subsequently, filtered using Quasi Gaussian w. ½-width of 300 and 150 km resp.

Results: The GOCE MDT: Similar to a GRACE MDT generally, Enhanced details – steeper slopes, but “GRACE noise” in the DIR solution (deg+order 100)

More Results: Maps of slopes show that the enhanced details: Enhance current speed and location and Reveal more sub-current branches/paths.

More Results: Comparisons with Slopes of the Maximenko MDT show a very good agreement.

Comparisons with GOCINA MDT MDTs based on DNSC08 and the 3 solutions (dir, tim, spw) – all filtered by Q.Gaussian with a ½ width of 1.5 and 1.0 degrees resp. – were compared to the GOCINA MDT (the iterative combination solution). Composite MDT KMS04 – NAT04 +-40 cm ESA Venice06 Symposium | March 2006 | PK | 6

Results – GOCINA comparisons: The results of this comparisons show that: The three GOCE r1 solutions produce very similar MDTs, MDTs obtained using a ½-w of 1.0 deg agree very well and better with the GOCINA MDT, The Slopes show some similarities but also that the may be important ocean dynamics at scales shorter that harm. deg. 200. (go for it ESA + friends!)
