Maria Clinical Hospital Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania. 2National Institute for Infectious Diseases "Prof. Dr. Matei Bals", 'Carol Davila' University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania. 3Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 'Filantropia' Clinical Hospital, Bucharest, Romania Background: HCV chronic infection is often associated with systemic, extrahepatic features. The aim of the study is to evaluate the association between duration of hepatic viral infection and the appearance of extrahepatic manifestations (EHM) or franc autoimmune accompanying diseases in patients infected with HCV. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional analysis of a group of patients with HCV infection was performed in two tertiary care hospitals with national addressability, a Rheumatology and an Infectious Diseases Center.  We analyzed the patients regarding the extrahepatic phenomena as well as the autoimmune disease associated. We divided the patients in three groups taking into account the duration of the liver viral infection. We used Windows Excel and SPSS20.0 72 patients - included in the study mean age - 56,7 years female predominance - 79,2% a median HCV-related liver disease duration - 10 years Results patients were organized in 3HCV disease duration groups (matched for sex and age) there was a female predominance in all 3 groups Conclusion EHM were associated with female predominance, advanced age, and longer duration of HCV infection (11-20years). Frank autoimmune diseases were mostly encountered in females, in the younger group and appeared in the first years of the viral infection (1-5years group).
