HOW DID WW2 START? WW2 began when Adolf Hitler attacked Poland in 1939.On the 3rd September priminister Neville Chamberlain declared war on Germany. He said that the British Ambassador had given Germany a final note stating that if we did not hear by 11o’clock that they were prepared to withdraw their troops from Poland immediately, then a state of war would exist between us. “As no such undertaking has been received, consequently this country is now at war with Germany”, he said.

The RAF The RAF made a huge difference in WW2. There were Spitfires, Hurricanes, Lancaster Bombers, Merlin Fighter Jets and many more. Spitfire Lancaster Bomber Hurricane

THE waaf During the war many women served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. They were not allowed to fly in combat missions but they flew planes to the places they were needed, maintained them and worked with codes and radar.

The BATTLE OF BRITAN and the Luftwaffe. The Luftwaffe was the name of the German air force . The Luftwaffe’s key plane was the Messerschmitt but it had a flying time of only 30 minutes before needing more petrol which was a massive downside. The Battle of Britain began in the summer of 1940. It was when the Germans/Axis powers launched a series of attacks on Britain and was a key part of WW2. The Blitz also began in 1940. It was when the Germans launched air raids on Britain for 40 nights. Many factories, large cities and docks were bombed.

Jobs in the RAF Jobs in the RAF included: Engineers- maintained the planes. Pilots-flew the plane. Wireless operator- in charge of communications between the air base and the aeroplane. Gunners- operated and maintained the guns. Bomb-aimers- aimed the bombs at a target location. The average age of the pilots in 1940 was just 20 years old.
