Step 1.2.4 Example Energy Policy XYZ Company Energy Policy As an energy intense manufacturer of specialty glass, XYZ Company strives to reduce its energy consumption and costs and promote the long-term environmental and economic sustainability of its operations. We are committed to: Reduce energy use per unit of production by 25% in 10 years in our manufacturing operations Ensure continual improvement in our energy performance Deploy information and resources to achieve our objectives and targets Uphold legal and other requirements regarding energy Consider energy performance improvements in design and modification of our facilities, equipment, systems and processes Effectively procure and utilize energy-efficient products and services Step 1.2.4 Example Energy Policy 120111 © 2011 Georgia Tech Research Corporation and U.S. Department of Energy XYZ Company Energy Policy Note that this organization has used a mnemonic—REDUCE—to help the workforce remember the energy management commitments set forth in the policy. The use of a mnemonic and the brevity of this policy statement facilitates training on and understanding of the commitments made in the policy by the workforce and on-site contractors and suppliers. The opening paragraph of the policy supports the relevance of the policy to the nature and scale of the company’s energy use (i.e., it recognizes that the company’s business involves energy intensive operations).
