LACUNY Professional Travel Grant Awards Frequency of Awards : Fall and Spring  for total 6 FULL LACUNY members Purpose : Attending and/or Presenting at Professional Conference/Event/ Meeting Award : $600

Eligibility- LACUNY Professional Travel Grant Awards Applicants must be LACUNY members with full membership before applying for the award. For more details about LACUNY Membership and payment information see : http://www.lacuny.org/pdf/membershipform.pdf Awards will not be given to more than one person from each institution. Past grant awardees are NOT eligible. Availability--or lack of availability--of travel funds at local colleges or library departments are not considered. Grant recipients can acquire/request money from their colleges but cannot duplicate receipts.  This is not a research travel grant, which is covered by the PSC-CUNY Research Awards. In addition, this grant is separate from any funds which may be available through a particular college or department.

Professional Travel Grant Application Must Read and Follow the Proposal Guidelines Proposal: It should be no longer than 500 words. Please note applications submitted with more than 500 words will not be considered. * Explain how attending such an event can benefit the applicant in his/her professional development * Indicate how the member’s attendance furthers LACUNY’s mission * Describe how one’s attendance contributes to areas of special focus within CUNY libraries * Describe how the conference or meeting or event explores new trends in the field. * How well these ideas are communicated in the proposal to the reviewers.

Professional Travel Grant Application Budget: The inclusion of a detailed budget indicating the following • Estimation of travel expenses (by most economical method) •  Air •  Train •  Car •  Other •   Meals •   Lodging •   Registration fee •   Local travel It may go above $600 but award is granted for $600. Grant recipients can acquire/request money from their colleges but cannot duplicate receipts.

Do’s and Don’ts Must write the proposals in set word limit Submit on time (11:59 PM EST) Quality of writing Do not mention your college, library name in the proposal

Application Codes, Blind Review Process and Rubrics   Applications Code( AP Code) Project Proposal Is it 500 words or below? If Yes: Evaluate the application based on rubrics If NO- Do not evaluate it and assign -NC Category 1: How does attendance further LACUNY's mission? Category 2: Organization & clarity of proposal; are the objectives clearly communicated? Category 3: How does attendance contribute to areas of special focus within CUNY libraries? Category4: How does attendance help participant explore new trends in the field? Category 5: Is the candidate selected as a speaker /presenter of event/conference? If YES = 1 If NO=0 ( if the candidate submitted a proposal in event and still waiting to hear the result then the ranking is equivalent to NO =0) Total 1 SP161 2 SP162 3 SP163 4 SP164 5 SP165

Winners, Summary Report and Distribution of Funds The winners are announced along with their conference paper title and venue over CULIBS It is not necessary to be a presenter at conference in order to win. Of the past 18 librarian winners, 15 presented, 2 attended and 1 was unable to attend Following within a month of conference, it is required to submit receipts and a one page summary report By accepting the award they are attending this particular conference Can only win once, and no more than one winner per round from any one CUNY institution. Winners have become reviewers. We occasionally seek volunteers to review travel grant applications from among our committee. Winners have been invited to our committee meetings to give a short presentation of their paper If family emergency or other un avoidable circumstances doesn’t allow you to attend conference, let co chairs know. If your proposed paper is not accepted and you are still attending the same conference , You can still keep the award if you are winner
