Real-time analysis for Pollution Prevention “Analytical methodologies need to be further developed to allow for real-time, in-process monitoring and control prior to the formation of hazardous substances.” * You cannot control what you cannot measure

Why is this Principle important? Monitors hazardous by-products and side reactions Monitors progress of reactions to determine their completion Use of accurate and reliable sensors, monitors, and analytical techniques to assess hazards that are present in the process stream In-process, real-time

How might it relate to prior Principles? Principle 1: Better to prevent waste than clean it up later Principle 3: Less hazardous synthesis Principle 4: safer chemicals; less toxic Principle 10: designed for degradation
