Music Videos https://youtu.be/AWpsOqh8q0M (If I were a boy) https://youtu.be/yyDUC1LUXSU (Blurred Lines) https://youtu.be/LDZX4ooRsWs (Anaconda)

Constructing femininity What does it mean to be feminine? How are women portrayed? What does it say about women and sex? How does the male define women's femininity?

Whose eyes do we see the video through Who is behind the camera? Whose fantasies are these? What are the stories? Who does the camera linger on? Where does the camera linger? What are the implications?

Ways of looking How do women invite the look? Consider the “female gaze” and how women express sexual desire. How do they portray that they enjoy to be looked at? Is their attention inwards? Or is it directed toward a male viewer? Whose pleasure are women expressing? What does this say to the person watching her? Is she perceived as dominant or passive? How are women's bodies examined by men? What part of her body is mostly being shown by the camera? What does this say about women objectification?

Pornographic gaze How does viewing women in a hyper sexualized way dehumanize them? How does filming women this way encourage pornographic fantasies by men? Why does only viewing women in sexual way detrimental to society and women empowerment? How are we accepting pornographic images of women?

FEMALE ARTISTS: TRAPPED IN THE PORNOGRPAHIC GAZE Musical ability is only one criteria to make it in the music industry!!! How do women artists portray themselves as sexual objects? (Example) How is the camera positioned to fluctuate between the way we look at women and the way women look at us? Is there a contradiction between an artist’s message and the way the music video represents her? Is there a transformation between the artists original image? Is it true that the only thing women are valued for is there body image and sexuality?

Masculinity and control How do men show dominance if women reject them? How are men portrayed in music videos? How are women portrayed in masculine setting? In sexual settings? Whose fantasy does the video portray? How do women react to unwanted advances by men? Are women allowed to ever say NO?

Normalization How is violence towards women normalized? How does that effect behavior of real men and women? what its like to be a woman walking on the street. How do you think men are invited to react women they find attractive? Do men in society feel they are entitled to women in sexualized or dominating ways? Why is it appropriate to objectify and abuse women in media but not in real life? What does that say about the industry?

Women's reaction in media vs. real life What is the difference between the way women in media react to being molested compared to real women? How does the media reinforce and justify male abuse towards women? To what extent is the line between fantasy and reality blurred? How is fantasy transitioning into reality?
