Allah is Goodness and the Goodness In The Sunnah way of Treating Sadness, Worry and Anxiety

The Prophet was human and he too used to suffer sometimes with worry, sadness and anxiety. How he overcame these emotions is what we need to learn to do for ourselves Imam Muslim reports that whenever the Prophet suffered from worry he would say: "None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, the Most Great, the Most Forbearing, none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, the Lord of the Mighty, Throne, none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, the Lord of the Heavens, the Lord of the earth and the Lord of the Supreme Throne." And it is narrated by At-Tirmidhi, on the authority of Anas that the Messenger of Allah.; used to say: "Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyumu, Birahmatika Astagheeth." "0, You, the Ever-living, the Sustainer and Protector of all that exists, By Your Mercy I seek aid."

Also Tirmidhi reports that Abu Huraira said whenever the Prophet was axious about something he would raise his eyes to the heavens and say: "Glorified be Allah, the Most Great." And sometimes he would add: “0, You, the Ever-living, the Sustainer and Protector of all that exists." And Abu Dawild has narrated on the authority of Abu Bakr that the supplication for one who is seized by calamity is to say after Al-Istirja: "Alkihumma,Rahmataka Arju, Fala Takilnee Ila Nafsee Tarfata Ain in Wa Aslih Lee Sha'nee Kullahu La Ilaha Illa Anta" "0, Allah! I seek Your Mercy, so do not entrust me to myself (even) for the blink of an eye; remedy all of my affairs, for there is none worthy of worship except You."

Abu Dawild also narrated on the authority of Asma' Sint 'Umais that she said: "The Messenger of Allah said to me: "Shall I not teach you words which you may say in times of distress? They are: “Allah is my Lord, I will not associate anything with Him." And Ahmad has narrated on the authority of Ibn Maud that he said: "Whenever a slave is afflicted by anxiety or sadness and he says after Al-Istirja: "0, Allah! I am Your slave and the son of your male slave and your female slave; I am in Your Power. Your Command concerning me prevails and Your Decision concerning me is just. I call upon You by every one of the beautiful Names by which You have described Yourself, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or have taught anyone of Your creatures, or which You have chosen to keep in the Knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Mighty Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my breast and the remover of my anxieties and sorrows.. Allah will remove his anxiety and sadness and substitute in place of it happiness."

One of the biggest causes of stress for us is the paying of our bills One of the biggest causes of stress for us is the paying of our bills. Our Prophet taught us how to relieve ourselves of the stress of debt which so many will go so far as to kill themselves as a result of. One of the companions was suffering from such worry and the Prophet said to him: "Shall I not teach you words which, if you said them, Allah, the Almighty, the All- Powerful will remove your anxiety and discharge your debt? Say in the morning and at night: "Oh, Allah! I seek refuge with You from anxiety and sadness and I seek refuge with You from inability and laziness and I seek refuge with You from cowardice and miserliness and I seek refuge with You from being overcome by debt and from the oppression of men. The Companion he told this to then said: "So I did that and Allah, the Almighty, the All-Powerful removed my anxieties and discharged my debts."

Life is meant to be a challenge for the Believer and so thus it is filled with many stresses and dissapointments. The Believer must remain firm in his faith and not allow the humps of life to get him down Abu Davvild narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet said: "Whoever is constant in seeking forgiveness from Allah, Allah will make a release for him from every trouble and a way out for him from every oppression and He will sustain him from whence he does not expect." Also the Prophet used to say: “Whoever is seized by many anxieties and stresses should frequently say: "There is nor power and no strength except in Allah.” For saying these words is a treasure from paradise..” (Bukhari)

Again, we were created to worship Allah and simply saying you believe in him is not enough As we discussed yesterday, Allah will test us in our belief with everything we care for.. our families, our monies, our jobs, our friendships, even our websites. Only those who truly believe in Allah pass the trials of life - and what makes them do so is the fact that they trust in and call upon him in their time of need. This is why it is important to keep our tongues wet with remembrance of Allah. Also the believers know that Allah does not place a burden on any of us that is too great to bear, so they bear their burdens with dignity and humble themselves to Allah. Are you such a person?
