3rd Grade Lesson 22 Spelling Words Changing Final y to i

Changing Final y to i If the base word ends with the letter y, to make it plural you may have to change the y to i and then add -es. If the base word ends with the letter y, to make it past tense you may have to change the y to i and then add -ed. For example: bunnies- dried- bunny, dry, change y to i, add -es change the y to i, add -ed

cried (cry, y to i, +ed) The boy cried when he broke his favorite toy.

puppies (puppy, y to i, +es) I want to take all of these puppies home!

hurried (hurry, y to i, +ed) The man hurried because he was late to work.
