District of Innovation Process Getting Started - Step 2 STOP Decline to pursue TEC 12A.002(b)(1) Public Hearing by School Board TEC 12A.002(a)

District of Innovation Process Getting Started - Step 3 Board appoints committee to develop plan with: Comprehensive educational program with innovations; and List of Texas Education Code provisions to be exempt TEC 12A.002(b); 12A.003

District of Innovation Process Plan Approval once developed Board notifies commission of intention to vote on proposed plan TEC 12A.005(a)(2) Committee holds public meeting, passes plan by majority vote TEC 12A.005(a)(3) Posted plan online for 30 days TEC 12A.005(a)(1) Upon completion of above, school board approves final plan by 2/3 majority TEC 12A.005(b)

DoI Committee Each school board member nominates 2 members, 1 education member and 1 community member. Superintendent nominates 7 members. Possibly include school attorney and teacher organization representatives. This would give the advisory panel 21 members. Request nominee names be submitted to Beth Trimble by February 6, 2017. Board/Superintendent should contact and confirm participation of their selected individuals.

Purpose of DoI Committee Explore the different exemptions and determine which ones are appropriate for our school district. Check with TEA regularly to see if there are additional exemptions Post the finished document for 30 days for review Host a Public Hearing about our plan and answer any questions our community might have Approve Final District of Innovation Plan and Submit to Board of Trustees for final approval
