Mosaic Committee Are you interested in: Helping to plan McK community-wide events and celebrations of our families Sharing ideas and make recommendations about how we can enhance our outreach and communication to our community Working with Principal Sousa to develop plans, strategies and initiatives to encourage our community members to increase participation in existing McK activities Committee Leads: Allison Brown (sassahfras@gmail.com) & Yashica Crawford (yashicad@hotmail.com) Description: The Mosaic Committee (previously Diversity Committee) has a goal of supporting our school with opportunities that celebrate the rich diversity of our community.  

Recruitment Committee What to expect: Participation in the SFUSD Fall Enrollment Fair Campus tours on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:15 - 9:15 am during the enrollment season (Oct – Jan). Participation in community events, presentations Outreach to adjacent and outlying neighborhoods to inform families of our school. Committee Leads: Leonie Patrick (lpatrick@sanfrancisco.travel) & Yashica Crawford (yashicad@hotmail.com) Description: We are a group of current McKinley parents that provide school tours and informational sessions to prospective parents.  

Hospitality Committee What to expect: Organizing various parties throughout the year: Welcome Back BBQ (August) Welcome Back Breakfast Teacher Appreciation Week breakfast Make it your own! Committee Leads: OPEN Description: What’s up party people! Are you a super party planner? Want to take a lead role on this great committee? Email volunteer@mckinleyschool.org!!

Science Committee We are looking for parents that can: What to expect: engage with kids with age appropriate science concepts connect us with resources that we can bring into to the school to teach our kids about fundamental and new and exciting developments  plan events through the school year. What to expect:  We meet once a month to check in and plan ahead. Come help plan the whole science year at your child's school. If that's too overwhelming, help us pull together one li'l project for our kids.  Committee Leads: Jeff Dubois (jeffdubo@gmail.com, Jagadha Sivan (Jsivan@gmail.com) Description: We working on making Science fun and engaging at McK. We work with Principal Sousa and her team to ensure that our kids have Science integrated into their daily learning. That they have access to the right tools, infrastructure and resources. 

Garden Committee What to expect: Garden work days Online communications Coordinating with building efforts Day to day care-taking Working with teachers, to bring the gardening into class Watering Our native garden by the bungalow Our herb garden in kinder-corner Our veggie garden in the upper yard Painting Woodworking and of course – Planting! Committee Leads: OPEN Description: No gardening experience is necessary!  The garden committee is the most *fun* committee for parents and kids to spend time together building a school we're all happy to come to.  The *easiest* committee to be involved in outside of working hours.  And a great opportunity to learn about gardening. Building Committee Can you help us to: Organize and clean the hallways? De-clutter tables and cabinets? Look for an email from the committee leads on projects and plans! Committee Leads: Keri Fishman (keri@kerifishman.com) & Molly Sterkel (molly@tirpak.com) Description: Hallways and cabinets and cupboards, oh my!

Communications/Technology Committee Can you help to: Transition McK Yahoo! to Google Groups Research and make recommendations on website replacement options Set up and manage email lists Create printed school directory (or online once login site is available) Transition to Paperless Wednesday Folders Communications/Technology Committee Committee Leads: Tricia Vastine (triciavastine@gmail.com)/OPEN Description: The Communications/Tech Committee helps to identify new and improved ways to communicate with the families, staff and McK community.

Arts Committee Can you help to: Research and problem solve with regards to scheduling, space issues for events and to look for other viable venues Write grants to help keep our program funded without impacting or counting on the PTA for the bulk of our revenue.   Survey teachers to see how VAPA and SFArtsEd classes are going from their perspective. Meet with VAPA and SFArtsEd teachers periodically to make sure they get the support from McKinley they need and to provide feedback from teachers. Ask teachers if they would like volunteers and then recruit them from the parent community.   Help to curate and hang exhibitions of student art along with VAPA and SFArtsEd teachers. Committee Leads: Rachael Nusbaum (nutree66@yahoo.com) & Vikki Azaria (azariav@sfusd.edu) Description: The Arts Committee is a group of parents who are trying to help diversify the art program.  We need forward thinking folks who understand how to integrate arts into the core curriculum.
