2. How can i make a difference in the learning outcomes of students?
School librarians are in a critical and unique position to partner with other educators to elevate the reading development of our nation’s youth.

I am here to help children succeed.
I will work with children, educators and administrators to
make this happen.
I envision a collaborative learning experience, innovative
strategies and ideas, a creative space to explore and
expand thinking, and a safe space to learn.
As a librarian, I think it’s critical to understand my role in student success. Studies have shown that students with a library in which the librarian collaborates with teachers, comes up with diverse ideas and activities for student learning, and is actively involved with student teaching do better at standardized testing and generally get better grades. My job is to help children succeed. It’s simple. The how is the fun part. I want to work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators in making a collaborative and dynamic learning experience in the library. I want the library to be the setting of exploration and expansive thinking, a safe space for student learning.

I think parents are a fundamental key to making the library work. I want parents to be actively involved. I will offer many opportunities for parent involvement. This includes database demonstrations, periodic parent learning nights (where you can learn an activity that your child is learning and have fun doing it!), linking the PTA to the library web site, having parent volunteer opportunities at the book fair and various clubs, and overall staying informed about the goings-on in the library.

4. How will i collaborate with teachers?
Help to teach and co-teach comprehension strategies
Integrate classroom learning objectives with learning strategies in the library
Involvement in building and district-wide curriculum committees
Network with other librarians for best strategies
Offer active support and suggestions for teaching curriculum
Write grants together
Present at conferences and professional journals
Inquiry center with handouts of collaboration tools
One of the principal roles in my job is to collaborate with teachers. Two heads are better than one. Three heads are better than two, and so on. Ultimately, the goal of the teacher and librarian is students success and collaboration is key to making that happen. There are a number of ways to do this. I can help teach and co-teach comprehension strategies, especially those regarding copy right practices, web safe practice skills, and literacy comprehension. In addition, I will be involved with various planning committees, school wide and district wide to seek best practices in planning curriculum. I will also network with other librarians for best strategies and offer active support and suggestions to teachers for ways to teach parts of the curriculum. I can research, help write grants, and presentation collaborative tools for teacher usage. In other words, I am another tool in the toolbox for teachers. I am an active part of the learning process for teachers, helping to make learning dynamic and interesting for students.

Book Fair Week, Banned Book Week, Battle of the Books! Dr. Seuss Party, Hands-on Science, Kids Spa Day, Snakes Alive!, Magic Class, Wii Dance, Readers Theatre, Improv Comedy Workshop, Hometown Hero Night, Holiday Book Giving, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Party, Book Bingo, various author events, and more!
I have many, many ideas for programs. These programs are education-based and so much fun for students. Students can come once a week on a regular basis for these clubs. Clubs being offered include book clubs, knitting group, a coding club, a girls only cody club, tech ninjas!, a dedicated makerspace 3-D printer club, a board game geeks group club, and a lego camp. There are special events that I will offer throughout the year, including the annual Book Fair, Banned Book Week, Battle of the Books!, Dr. Seuss Party, Hands-on Science, Kids Spa Day where kids can make lotions and face masks using natural ingredients; Snakes Alive! Where a hertologist brings live critters to meet the students, a Magic Class where students can learn several magic tricks from a real magician; Wii Dance; Readers Theatre where students will act in a play; Improv Comedy night where high school comedy students work with younger students; Hometown Hero Night where a real hero that lives in this area talks to students about his/her heroic event; Holiday Book Giving where students have the opportunity to collect and give books to those in need; Diary of a Wimpy Kid Party; Book Bingo!; various author talks, and much more!

6. What is your role as an educator?
I am a teacher-librarian.
This means:
I teach literacy, web 2.0, and comprehension skills
I teach about fair use and privacy rights
I teach about plagiarism
I help students read and foster the love of reading by promoting
books and literacy in fun, and relevant ways
I work with teachers to find best practices and co-teach, collaborate
on lessons and initiatives classroom, school-wide, or district wide
I work with parents to make sure they are informed and involved
I create a safe space for students to learn and grow!
My role as a educator is simple. I was students to grow, learn, and ultimately succeed. I care about students and I care about their success and well-being. As an educator, this means that I teach literacy, web 2.0, and other comprehension skills. I also teach about fair use, privacy rights, and internet safe practices. I talk about plagiarism. A big chunk of my job is helping students learn to read and foster that love of reading in them by finding books they wants to read that are fun and relevant as well as research skills. I am a teacher-librarian, which means I collaborate with other teachers and teach and co-teach. I want to work with parents to keep them informed and involved. I want students to have a safe space where they can learn and grow in a healthy environment. My job has many hats!
