Habakkuk’s Hymn of Praise Part 2: The Prophet Praises God Habakkuk 3:3-15

Habakkuk 3:3-5 3 God comes from Teman, And the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His splendor covers the heavens, And the earth is full of His praise. 4 His radiance is like the sunlight; He has rays flashing from His hand, And there is the hiding of His power. 5 Before Him goes pestilence, And plague comes after Him.

Habakkuk 3:6-7 6 He stood and surveyed the earth; He looked and startled the nations. Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered, The ancient hills collapsed. His ways are everlasting. 7 I saw the tents of Cushan under distress, The tent curtains of the land of Midian were trembling.

Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom. Psalm 145:3

"Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me.” Isaiah 44:6

"You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me.” Isaiah 43:10

"Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me…” Isaiah 46:9

I. The Praise of God’s Person (3-7) Verse 3: The sunrise… As the Jews left Egypt…Teman and Mt. Paran would have been to the east…

I. The Praise of God’s Person (3-7) Verse 3: The sunrise… As the Jews left Egypt…Teman and Mt. Paran would have been to the east… Recalling God’s past judgments & deliverances serves as the background to future judgment & deliverance… God is consistent.

I. The Praise of God’s Person (3-7) Verse 4: Sunrise to early dawn… The radiance & power of God are highlighted.

I. The Praise of God’s Person (3-7) Verse 5: Early dawn to mid-morning… God was able to judge the wickedness (of Egypt) and yet deliver His people…all at the same time!

I. The Praise of God’s Person (3-7) Verse 6: Mid-morning to noon… The full heat & intensity of day! “…the nation’s startled…” “…the mountains were shattered…” “…the hills collapsed…” Judges 5:4-5 Psalm 68:7-8

I. The Praise of God’s Person (3-7) Verse 7: Noon day to evening… History is advancing; traveling like nomads to a close when Christ will return! Are we ready for the “day” to end?

Conclusion Merciful. Gracious. Loving. All-Good. Faithful. Great. Personal. Compassionate. A CONSUMING FIRE! Promise Keeping. Incorruptible. His Greatness…no one can fathom! Eternal. Immortal. All-powerful. Our God is a GREAT GOD! There is no God beside Him! All-knowing. Only-wise. All-present. There is no God before Him! Glorious. Most High. Perfect. Holy. There is no God after Him! Our God is a Great God! Upright. Just. True. Righteous.

Conclusion God, alone, is worthy of our praise! God, alone, is worthy of our prayers! God is trustworthy. God is able…where man is unable. God is willing…that whosoever would believe. God is victorious!

May we be found by God as a people of praise! Conclusion May we be found by God as a people of praise!
