Indian Constitution

Constituent Assembly that drafted a constitution for independent India

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Father of the Indian Constitution Dr Ambedkar believed that his participation in the Constituent Assembly helped the Schedule Castes get some safeguards in the draft constitution.

CONSTITUTION A written document in which the supreme law of the country is written.

Importance of Constitution It lays out certain ideals that form the basis of the kind of country that we as citizens aspire to live in. It tells us about the fundamental nature of our society. It includes an agreement on certain ideals that they all believe the country should uphold.

Why do we need a Constitution? It reflects the Ideals of the country. It defines the nature of a country’s political system. (Whether monarchy or democratic) It provides guidelines to govern decision-making process in societies. It safeguards the citizens against the misuse of powers by the leaders.

Fundamental rights are guaranteed by the Constitution. Continued… Fundamental rights are guaranteed by the Constitution. It ensures that minorities are not being suppressed by the dominant group. It provide security against the tyranny of the majority. Constitution is to save us from ourselves.
