Greatest Canadian : John Robert Osborn By Bernard Tsui

Background info. He was born in Norfolk England on the 2nd of January 1899 He served in the First World War as a seaman in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and saw action at the Battle of Jutland in May 1916.

He joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers in 1933 and was called to active duty on the 3rd of September 1939

Why was he the Greatest Canadian? When grenade was thrown towards their side, he covered the grenade with his body and the helmet, saving his soldiers by sacrificing himself He was the first Canadian in WWII to be awarded the Victoria Cross, the only Victoria Cross awarded in the Battle Of Hong Kong.

He may not be famous, but he will be remembered by a lot of citizens of Hong Kong, because he sacrificed his life to protect Hong Kong.
