SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS: WHAT, WHY & WHY NOW
Presentation transcript:

Next Generation Sector Partnerships Demand Focused Program Focused Program Led Industry Led Single Purpose Diverse Priorities Few Employers Critical Mass of Industry Leadership Focus Group Model Shared Ownership Model Advisory Board Next Gen Sector Partnership Key Features of Partnerships Industry-led Agendas are based on industry- determined priorities, not public programs. Partnerships of businesses from the same industry, in a shared labor market region, working with partners to address the workforce and competitiveness needs of the targeted industry. Community-supported Public partners from workforce development, economic development, and education work together to convene and support Next Gen Sector Partnerships. Sustainable over time Since Next Gen Sector Partnerships are organized around the topic that interests business leaders most--what it takes to ensure that their company thrives--they are sustainable over time. CA Slingshot Initiative Sector strategies have been around forever. Work into intention of demand driven – Understand labor market information, data driven, respond to what companies need so (Industry Sectoral Training Programs) Intentionality of partners brought to the table Shared agenda driven by sector partners (growth agenda) WF & Ed is typically top priority, supply chain issues (early wins & momentum builders) – long term talent issues Public sector sits outside the table – allows for understanding of industry demands (listening role) Public sector can still participate in solution, but process maintains industry voice at the center Public Sector relationships are foundational to process before coordinated call to action to understand what drives the local economy and determine which industries warrant coordinated action of next gen sector partnership (not just more, better, independent stronger partnerships) Requires workforce boards to work together (co-staffing) Categories of Benefit Greater impact on the industry – Ways to begin tracking & calculating impact on individual companies (changes in internal ops, HR/recruitment, b to b connections, bidding on bigger contracts, new ideas – cluster growth Common Mistakes WF/Ed jumps too quickly to a solution (belief that there is already a solution) Wins in 30-60 days Already engaged in collective impact? Next Gen Sector Partnerships can be utilized to inform priorities and improve career readiness in key industries.
