Appalachian mountain reflections magazine Mr. James Cornett Mr. Glenn Baker

Give Appalachian youth and adults a voice through creative writing and development of a digital magazine promoting Problem of practice

“Where I’m from” Students from 3rd grade up (including some of my students) as well as adults from Owsley County wrote “Where I’m From” stories based on famous Kentucky Author George Ella Lyons 2016 Initiative to have children and adults reflect on ‘Place’ and write about themselves. Students and adults that wanted their work published submitted their writings to Mr. Glenn Baker who proofed the work and published them in a digital magazine.

Issue #1 – Published January 2017 Issue #2 – will be published april 2017

Outcomes 200 + students wrote “Where I’m From” stories (grades 3 – 12) Student and adult writing Engagement of students and adults in digital magazine creation – (in an article/story, etc.) 200 + students wrote “Where I’m From” stories (grades 3 – 12) 10+ adults wrote “Where I’m From” stories 7+ teachers were involved in getting students to write “Where I’m From” stories 107 adults were represented in the first 2 editions of the digital magazine 141 students were represented in the first 2 editions of the digital magazine
