2 PG BUDGET IN THE NEWS About the Budget Sample Email Edit the letter to make it personal – tell your story and reasons support is needed for PG schools. Dear Mr./Ms. (Council Member Name): I have lived in Prince George’s County for x years with my family. My children, attend the Judith P Hoyer Montessori school and we are proud supporters of public education. I/We applaud the County Executive for his bold vision and support the funding for education in his budget 100%. Now is the time for action – we cannot wait. Our county must support our schools now and I support the tax increases to do so. Please let me know how you will be voting for the budget and for my children’s future– my future political decisions will hinge on your vote on this issue. Sincerely, Your Name(s) Washington Post Editorial: A bold plan in Prince George’s: http://wapo.st/19MT8jb http://wapo.st/19MT8jb PG County Resident Courtland Malloy’s Washington Post column on the budget: http://wapo.st/1CLW9eC http://wapo.st/1CLW9eC Gazette article on the budget: http://bit.ly/1FAjd1U Please read articles on right for more budget details. Increases education funding by $135.7 million - a game changing investment for students, families and our County’s future. Improved schools improve property values and economic development. Surrounding counties currently invest a higher % of their total budget in education. As we push MD to increase funding, leaders ask what are PG County residents willing to do to support schools? The budget includes a 15% property tax increase. That is $150/year for $100,000 homes - exemption for household incomes below $60,000. County Council is hearing loudly from opponents of the tax increase. They need to hear from those who support the education budget and funding measures. The Montessori Advancement Committee will provide updates in coming weeks through email. For more info/to become more involved, Contact: PTA President Sarah Clark, 240-472-1772 sarahjclark135@me.com FOR MORE INFO LAST YEAR IN PG SCHOOLS: Graduation rates went up 2.47%: highest increase in MD; highest increase ever for PGC. 9 th grade promotion rates increase 4%, reversing history of declining rates. Over 3500 new students enrolled in PGCPS. Previous 9 years saw decline in students.
